Where does it work?
The transponder works on virtually all U.S. toll roads that use interoperable electronic tolling technology. That is over 97% of major toll roads in the U.S. [See list of toll roads participating with RV Toll Pass]. Toll roads with incompatible technology typically will charge tolls to your RV Toll Pass account based on the vehicle license plate.
What is RV Toll Pass? What is it designed to do?
A single windshield mounted (or built-in) radio frequency toll transponder and single account solution that allows RVers to seamlessly and convieniently travel toll roads in the United States by taking advantage of cashless electronic tolling.
What are the advantages?
- Tolls captured electronically are typically lower than the cash or video toll price, saving money.
- Many toll roads use this type of technology to charge tolls at highway speeds, saving time and eliminating need to navigate those narrow lanes at toll booths.

How does it work?
The RV Toll Pass transponder communicates with radio frequency antennas located at toll plazas, signaling that the vehicle is cleared to pass without having to stop to pay the toll. RV Toll Pass customers enjoy the freedom of all-electronic tolling paid through a single account for toll road usage across the U.S.
Can I tow a vehicle behind my motorhome when using RV Toll Pass?
Yes, as long as the towed vehicle's license plate is included in your RV Toll Pass account. Only the motorhome should have an RV Toll Pass on the windshield while towing. Any toll transponder on the vehicle being towed should be disabled while being towed. Nearly all toll authorities now employ automatic vehicle classification systems which classify by axle count and/or weight and upcharge to vehicle/tow configuration.
Do I need a separate transponder for my towed vehicle if I have RV Toll Pass in my motorhome?
No, as long as your towed vehicle's license plate is included in your RV Toll Pass account. Any toll transponder on the vehicle being towed should be disabled while being towed.
What is Activation?
Activation is the process of establishing an account and linking it to your RV Toll Pass transponder, vehicle and pre-payment method. Once activated, you will only be charged for replenishing your account when the balance drops below a minimum and you will only be charged the $14.99 service fee in months that you incur toll charges.
Do I need to Activate my transponder before using it?
Yes! You must have established an account to pay tolls charged to your transponder. Driving on toll roads, before activating your new transponder, may result in a toll violation and fine. Once Activated, tolls will be paid from your account. Simply click on "Activate".
Can I Activate with a temporary license plate or must I wait for the permanent plate?
Yes! Go ahead and activate your account with the temporary plate but be sure to contact support@rvtollpass.com when you receive your permanent plate.
Who is Payviam?
Payviam is a service of Bestpass, Inc. Bestpass is a major provider of toll support services. RV Toll Pass accounts are managed by Payviam.
How do I get accurately billed if I register as a tow vehicle and I am running without the trailer?
If an RV Toll Pass customer has registered their vehicle as a tow vehicle and no trailer is attached they will be automatically billed at the two axle vehicle rate. When towing a trailer the toll authorities will automatically detect their trailer and will bill them appropriately based on total axle count. Nearly all toll authorities utilize automatic vehicle classification (AVC) that detects the number of axles and/or weight to charge properly.
If I have an existing toll transponder on my windshield from my local toll authority, can I use RV Toll Pass?
Yes, but to avoid any chance of double billing, it is highly recommended that you remove or temporarily disable any other toll transponders you have on your windshield when using the RV Toll Pass device.
- If you have a hard case toll tag, simply remove it from your windshield and place it in the Mylar bag that came with your RV Toll Pass and put it in a safe place.
- If you have a windshield sticker toll tag, it can be temporarily disabled by using the Sticker Tag Shield, included with your RV Toll Pass transponder to prevent the possiblity of double billing. Please see the FAQ directly below. Alternately, contact your local toll authority to request a hard case transponder replacement. Then follow the procedure above when using RV Toll Pass.
The Tag Shield is designed to disable any sticker toll tag presently on the windshield. Instructions for use are either embossed on the shield or read them here [Tag Shield instructions].
How do I install the RV Toll Pass transponder?
The RV Toll Pass transponder is easy to install on the windshield of your RV or tow vehicle. [See installation instructions].
I live in Canada. Can I use RV Toll Pass?
Unfortunately RV Toll Pass will not work on Canadian toll roads, but when traveling to the U.S., you can enjoy the convienience and savings on U.S. toll roads.
Does RV Toll Pass work on High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes or bridges?
There are often special local rules for use of HOT lanes that vary from region to region that may change from time to time. Some bridges have local rules that change from time to time or have special payment methods. It is suggested that before you travel, you refer to the relevant local authorities' web site for the most up to date information. [See list of toll roads participating with RV Toll Pass].
What is the purpose of the Mylar bag? When and why should I use it?
The Mylar is provided to store your RV Toll Pass or local hard case toll tag when not in use.
What kind of maintenance is required?
No maintenance is required. Your RV Toll Pass transponder is either vehicle powered or powered by a permanent, fixed battery allowing for years of maintenance-free service.
You should contact support@rvtollpass.com to deactivate your transponder and avoid any potential fraudulent billing.
What if I sell my RV with the RV Toll Pass transponder?
If you are including the RV Toll Pass transponder in the sale, you need to contact support@rvtollpass.com to remove yourself from the registration so that you do not receive the future charges. You may also remove your battery powered RV Toll Pass from the vehicle you sell and transfer it to another similar RV. You will need to contact support@rvtollpass.com to reactivate with your new vehicle and license plate information.
Is there a warranty on the battery powered transponder?
Yes. 30 days unconditional warranty from the time of purchase. One year warranty for parts and materials, including battery.
If you think that your account does not properly reflect your use of toll roads, you should contact support@rvtollpass.com to determine the likely source of the problem. You may be asked questions about the placement of your transponder or when and where it was purchased. If the analysis points to a faulty transponder within warranty, you will be given instructions on how to get it replaced under warranty. If the transponder is no longer within the warranty period, you will be given instructions on purchasing and activating a new transponder.
Stored objects in the cabover area could interfere with the RV Toll Pass signal. This area should be kept clear as per Federal/State and local regulations as well as RV manufacturer recommendations regarding use of the cabover while the vehicle is in motion.
